A muy picante festival!

I hope to see you at the 34th Reflets du ciné ibérique et latino-américain (Reflections of Iberian and Latin American Cinema) festival from 14th to 28th March 2018.

 Archives | Last updated date : 29/03/2018

On the menu are 42 full-length films and 6 short films in the Panorama du Zola section, 14 films in the Regards section including no less than 84 screenings in total in the Zola cinema as well as other partner locations... I can't wait!

I don't know about you, but as the time passes I seem to find it longer and longer between each edition of the Reflets! So I'm relieved that the 34th edition is finally back on our screens, boasting an even more ambitious programme.

Within the context of Catalonia's current burning issues, this region is cast in the spotlight with a brand new film shown in Catalan, Incerta Gloria, with a plot that whisks us back to the time of the civil war in 1937. Aundiya is a very beautiful and visually stunning film inspired by true facts. Showing this Basque language film also marks a major change.

Other brand new films: El Bar by Álex de la Iglesia, whose film represents a truly acrobatic achievement by mixing a range of cinematographic genres: comedy, crime, suspense and survival. A deep and thorough social critique supported by a cast that is talented as well as quirky.

The biggest new film in this 2018 edition is undoubtedly Lila's Book. Young cinemagoers finally have a film just for them with this fantastic animation for little ones (aged 5 and over), shown in a French version. What a lovely surprise!

Horror fans will also note the two late-night Saturday films shown at 11.30pm this year, Juan de los Muertos (Juan of the Dead) and [REC], with free 'Medianoche, churros y café' (midnight churros and coffee). We're a bit spoilt!

Want to know my favourite film from this edition of Reflets? Felix Viscarret's documentary Saura(s) about the work of the great film director and living legend Carlos Saura. A truly touching documentary.

In terms of personal appearances, the conference led by Pedro Tena Tena on the theme of cinema censorship during the Franco period is not to be missed. Other highlights include appearances by Spanish film directors David Macián (La mano invisible) and Pablo Berger (Abracadabra) who will introduce their films.

To close this 34th edition of the Reflets, put on your dancing shoes at the “100% España” grand closing Fiesta with a showing of the film ¡ Átame ! by Pedro Almodóvar who needs no introduction, along with some of his favourite actors Victoria Abril, Antonio Banderas and Francisco Rabal.

Olé!
