It’s already the 14th edition of the European Night of Museums – a major date in Europe’s cultural diary! Like the Fête de la Musique (World Music Day), the Night of museums has become a major event, celebrated all over Europe. Rediscover our museums’ collections and treasures in a peaceful early evening atmosphere..

This is a golden opportunity (which is free to boot) to discover our city’s monuments and heritage in a fun way.

Here’s a quick and non-exhaustive (as there’s simply too much on the programme to mention everything) recap of what’s on during this special evening...

While the Musée Gadagne will become a huge playground, the Musée des Tissus will be visited by candlelight (artificial candles though – let’s not take any risks!).

At the Centre d'histoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation, there will be an invitation to dance, serving as a reminder that during the Second World War balls were quite simply banned under the Vichy government! But that didn’t stop young people from bravely defying the ban and organising clandestine balls. You can relive some of that special atmosphere with the choreographer Abdou N'gom.

At the Musée des Confluences, you can discover the ancestral know-how of Tuareg artisans, in an exotic musical atmosphere featuring the sounds of the desert.

You can also visit the Musée de l'Imprimerie et de la Communication Graphique to take part in a traditional printing workshop. You may well come across the artist in residence, Paul Creus, who is currently working on a reinterpretation of the building.

Take a look at the programme here to see everything that’s on and plan your personal itinerary for the evening.

Enjoy the evening and above all stay curious!

Virginie comes from Corsica. "We can't all be born in Lyon…" as they say. But our lovely city is now under her skin (although her beloved island remains firmly anchored in her heart).
