En route for 2019: the countdown has begun...
From the 7th of June to the 7th of July 2019, France will be hosting the FIFA Women's World Cup.
Lyon is undoubtedly part of the present-day sporting landscape… As you may remember, after hosting the Euro 2016, Lyon went on to welcome the semi-finals of the Top 14, then the UEFA final.
The city is sure to roar like a "Lyon", as it will be hosting the FIFA Women's World Cup, with the three most prestigious matches played at the Groupama Stadium: the two semi-finals on the 2nd and 3rd of July and the big final on the 7th of July 2019.
The 24 qualified teams will be competing to win the World Cup. The automatically qualified French team, bolstered by the Olympique Lyonnais women's team (who have already won the European Championship three times), will be aiming for victory!
Numerous activities are planned throughout the city.
Our picks:
- Photography exhibition: “Quand l’émotion débarque à Lyon” (When emotion comes to Lyon)
- The “Village FIFA Fan Expérience” (FIFA Fan Experience Village), which will be inaugurated on Place Bellecour at 11:30 am on the 26th of June. There will be many surprises in store for young and old. It will be an opportunity to pay tribute to Louis Nicollin, a pioneer in top-level women’s football, who passed away on the 29th of June 2017 in Nîmes.
- On the 26th of June, the French Football Federation (FFF) will open a museum of the history of women’s football in the Atrium of the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall) in Lyon.
Supporters, this is going to be one of the best FIFA Women's World Cups ever!
