The Chinese New Year will be celebrated on the 25th of January this year. The ‘Association des Chinois de Lyon et Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes’ is inviting kids and adults to a big family celebration to welcome in the New Year – the year of the Rat, a symbol of luck and prosperity. Did you know? Many famous local figures were born in the year of the rat, such as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Abbé Pierre and Jean-Michel Jarre!
Once again this year, the Institut Lumière is putting on one of its big events: the Festival Sport, Littérature et Cinéma... Soyons Sport ! (let's get sporty!) From the 29th of January to the 2nd of February, it will be a chance to attend screenings, meetings and an exhibition on sports. This year’s special guest is Michel Platini!
Beginning on the 20th of February, the major exhibition GENESIS will be held at La Sucrière. An exceptional exhibition of 245 captivating black and white photographs taken by Sebastião Salgado, who pays a stunning tribute to our natural world.
Open 6ème Sens is the new gathering for women’s tennis in France, which is driven forward by its ambassador Caroline Garcia, France’s number one player.
Cirque du Soleil is back with its latest show – KOOZA – at the ‘Big Top Show’ on the esplanade of the Groupama Stadium. Ours is the only French city to be hosting this Cirque du Soleil show in 2020! It makes Lyon want to roar with pride!
An annual gathering for the people of Lyon and a major event in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, The Foire de Lyon (Fair of Lyon) offers opportunities to bring your projects to fruition, discover new trends... And find great deals!
Another major exhibition not to be missed in 2020 is Picasso et les baigneuses at the Musée des Beaux-Arts (Museum of Fine Arts), which takes a fresh look at the theme of the bathing woman in the work of this artist and other contemporaries.
Crime fiction will take pride of place from the 3rd to the 5th of April, for the 16th edition of Quais du Polar. You can once again take part in the thrilling Grande Enquête (Grand Investigation) in the city and meet your favourite authors!
its success in 2019, we are delighted to see that the ground-breaking Peinture Fraîche Festival is returning to Halle Debourg. This popular street art event is eclectic and forward-looking.
Entirely dedicated to electronic and independent music, as well as innovative cultures, Nuits sonores has established itself as one of Europe's major festivals. Enjoy four fantastic days of electronic music!
A new event in Lyon, the Felyn Stadium Festival is making a big impact with a very attractive line-up: DJ Snake, Dadju, Bad Bunny and Red Hot Chili Peppers, no less!
Les Nuits de Fourvière is held in Lyon’s ancient theatres and has long been one of the highlights of the early summer. It offers something for all tastes, with drama, dance, music, circus and opera.
In 2020, Lyon is proud to be hosting the arrival of the 14th stage and the departure of the 15th stage of the Tour de France on the banks of the Rhône! It will be passing through on the 11th and 12th of July.
At the end of August, make the most of the last weekend of the summer with the Festival Woodstower at Grand Parc de Miribel Jonage. The programme is still being prepared, but you can buy your tickets already!
The Lyon Street Food Festival is back to delight our taste buds and is offering a tour of the world of Street Food, with four guest destinations. The festival will feature “corners” dedicated to the gastronomy and culture of each destination. In addition to discovering food, there will be free workshops to learn about culture. Experience authentic food and a culinary journey!
The Dance Biennale and its famous highlight – the Parade – will be celebrating Africa in 2020. It is an invitation to enjoy the beauty of diversity and view the world through the mixed perspectives of African and French artists.
Attracting ever more visitors with each passing year, the Festival Japan Touch – Salon de l’Asie puts the spotlight on Japanese pop culture!
Also celebrating Asian culture in Lyon, the fifth edition of the festival Les Baguettes magiques, to be held in September, will be promoting Chinese gastronomy.
In October, Lyon’s Presqu'île will come to life with five days of festivities, meetings, finds and fun, to discover this district in a new light, during the festival Retrouvailles My Presqu’île.
Lyon has a festival dedicated to silk! With Silk In Lyon in November, discover the latest edition of the gathering that brings together silk industry stakeholders in the impressive Palais de la Bourse.
The Lumière Festival brings some warmth to the cold autumn weather with screenings, meetings with actors and directors, and the prestigious Prix Lumière!
Last, but certainly not least, the Festival of Lights has to be the iconic annual event in Lyon. With magical installations and performances, artists serve up a show that is never the same and always dazzling.
