Self-guided walking tour: Old Lyon and its traboules

Discover this district listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. 
Beginning on the square in front of Saint-Jean Cathedral, follow your guide’s voice on your smartphone: the stories begin automatically at the places where they happened! You will learn about the ins and outs of the hidden passageways knowns as traboules and inner courtyards, which make for the unique charm of Vieux-Lyon (Old Lyon). 

Self-guided walking tour: Lyon, Croix-Rousse and historical silk industry

From Boulevard des Canuts, explore Croix-Rousse Hill and its magnificent slopes, in the footsteps of the Canuts, Lyon’s former silk workers. You can also admire the beautiful Fresque des Canuts, a giant trompe l'oeil mural, measuring an impressive 1200 m², which depicts the special atmosphere of the Croix-Rousse district so well.

Beginning on Rue Royale, the birthplace of the famous restaurant run by Mère Brazier, listen to the story of Lyon’s gastronomic food culture, including the city’s 4000 restaurants, its art of living, its traditions and its mouth-watering delicacies. You will also learn how the famous female chefs known as the ‘Mères Lyonnaises’ influenced the region’s greatest chefs.

Self-guided walking tour: Lyon, WWII & Resistance

With your smartphone in your pocket, follow the guide’s voice and relive the fearful history of the French Resistance from 1940 to 1944. In the district of Les Terreaux, next to the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall) and the arcades of the Opera House, this tour will take you in the footsteps of the great figures of Lyon’s Resistance movement.

Far from the city’s usual tourist hotspots, this tour reveals the grand housing project that architect Tony Garnier came up with to address working class poverty in the twentieth century. It is a chance to admire this “open-air museum” and its many murals.
