Lyon Rose wall painting
Résidence Maurice Langlet avenue Paul Santy - 69008 Lyon 8ème
Painted wall telling the tale of roses in Lyon in the 19th c. when the Bachut district abounded with rose gardens. It was created thanks to the Société des Roses Anciennes en France by Cité de la Création and inaugurated in June 2011.
The first mural to paint the story of the Lyon Rose: The bottom part is intended to illustrate, with a series of images, the chronological progress of this story. Each arch represents a specific period: On the top part, above the field of roses, we can see four varieties: “boule de neige” of Lacharme, “Mme Alfred Carrière” of Schartz, “Marie van Houtte” of Ducher and “Mme Eugene Resal” of Guillot.
On one of the 12 blinds is represented the portrait of Josephine de Beauharnais and the rose “Souvenir de la Malmaison” of Beluze. This rose was given to Lyon’s Botantical Garden, then located on the Croix Rousse hill, as part of it’s collection of rare plants (particulalary roses).
