La Chapelle de la Trinité
29-31 rue de la Bourse - 69002 Lyon 2ème
A composer in London in 1660
Matthew Locke is just ahead of Henry Purcell in the history of English music. His music, composed for a wide variety of instruments (woodwinds, strings, winds, voices), possesses the same strange, irregular Baroque charm, thanks to daring melodic turns and deliciously dissonant harmonies.
This concert explores the multiple facets of this composer, with excerpts from his incidental music The Tempest, excerpts from the opera Cupid and death, and numerous suites for multi-instrument consorts.

Vocal and instrumental works by Matthew Locke: excerpts from The Tempest, Cupid and Death, Consort music, motets, etc.
