Hippodrome Lyon La Soie
1 avenue de Böhlen - 69120 Vaulx-en-Velin
Part of a shopping and leisure centre, the hippodrome covers 16 ha. It is located along the Canal de Jonage in Vaulx-en-Velin. It was inaugurated in 2009, picking up the baton from the hippodrome of Cusset, which was also known as the hippodrome of Villeurbanne.
Near the Laurent Bonnevay ring-road and the Vaulx-en-Velin la Soie public transport hub, the hippodrome’s location is ideal to get to Lyon city centre by metro or tram, as well as the airport on the Rhônexpress shuttle.
The hippodrome is part of the Carré de Soie shopping and leisure complex, which is home to 52 shops, 14 restaurants, a 14-screen multiplex cinema, Mini World Lyon, and the UCPA centre (with a pony club, horse-riding lessons and a skate park) in the centre of the racecourse. This is a place like no other in France!
The hippodrome regularly welcomes themed days, including horse-riding shows, original dromedary races and more…
Equipped with modern facilities, the hippodrome includes a huge betting hall, a brasserie and an impressive events space boasting a panoramic view.
Race meetings take place from October to April. The covered stands have 2000 seats, from which audiences can watch more than 200 races held annually, in two disciplines (gallop and trot).
In 2022, Les Hippodromes de Lyon was awarded EquuRES certification, for the environment and animal welfare, reflecting its investment in sustainable development.
This certification is equivalent to level 2 in the French CEEA (Certification Environnementale des Exploitations Agricoles – environmental certification for farming operations), known as HVE 2. This is the only environmental quality certification for the horse-riding sector recognised by the French Ministry of Agriculture.
