At a crossroads between heritage and modernity, tradition and innovation, history and the future, terroir and an open outlook on the world, nine highly reputed local artisans on Lyon’s food scene come together to invent ‘Les Halles’ of tomorrow and offer a culinary journey in the exceptional setting of the Grand Hôtel-Dieu

Les Halles at the Grand Hôtel-Dieu: an exceptional setting for exceptional Lyonnais gastronomy

Beneath the arches of this fully renovated former hospital, the Grand Hôtel-Dieu’s indoor food market ‘Les Halles’ stretches out over two floors of 600 m² each.
Behind the majestic facade of the Hôtel-Dieu building, designed by Soufflot in the eighteenth century, you will now find the jewel of Lyon’s gastronomy.

Who will you find at Les Halles in the Grand Hôtel-Dieu?

Nine prestigious local establishments have made their home in Les Halles:

  • Pignol, confectioner and caterer from father to son
  • Maison Pozzoli, a family-run artisanal bakery
  • Voisin, a master chocolatier that is famous in Lyon
  • Trolliet, a family-run butcher’s established in Lyon for 45 years
  • Mère Richard, a Lyonnais cheesemaker created in 1965 at Lyon’s former food market in Cordeliers
  • Vianey, fishmonger - Jean-Luc Vianey, MOF 2011
  • Guyot, Wine merchant since 1919
  • Cerise et Potiron, greengrocer
  • Le Théodore, the bistro of Les Halles.

Last, but certainly not least, Fruisy, serves up pressed juices made with fruit and vegetables produced using responsible agricultural practices.

How about a meal at Les Halles?
What a great idea!
Les Halles is open to the public every day of the week, with 120 seats available for lunch.
On the banks of the Rhône, along Quai Jules-Courmont, or on the terraces in the Sainte-Élisabeth courtyard: choose your favourite spot!

Mathilde

Always smiling, Mathilde comes to us from Franche-Comté (as her lilting accent attests). Besides, she is mad about Franche-Comté cheeses: comté, cancoillotte, mont d’or... And all things comestible, for that matter (she’s a real foodie!). Her secret to staying slim? Physical activity. She loves running along the banks of the Saône, near her home. Her motto? Run more to eat more!
