How to define the Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne
A show? No, rather a series of themed exhibitions and installations throughout the city highlighting contemporary creation in the field of design. This month-long event is devoted to a discipline that goes far beyond turning everyday objects into works of art, by creating the ambiance of a place and imagining bridges to connect a diverse range of individuals.
It searches for curves, lines, materials, techniques and technologies to help improve society in all of its diversity, by creating relationships and connections, while meeting individual needs. With the above in mind, this year's theme was chosen by the exhibition curator Lisa White.
There will also be a range of activities to raise awareness of design among the general public, including visits, conferences, creative workshops, puzzle-solving and escape games.
This year, China is the guest of honour. It will present the rapidly growing design sector in China, in the past, present and future.
Fascinating and experiential, the Stefania exhibition imagines the city of tomorrow, evolving and moving forward with each passing day! It is being organised by the students of ESADSE (Saint-Étienne Higher School of Art and Design) in collaboration with 28 European and Chinese schools.
Isabelle, our editor born and bred in Lyon! She was born in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon in fact, studied in Lyon and now lives here. Territorial? Absolutely not! She loves travelling, widening her horizons, meeting new people and enjoys a change of scenery (without snow, if possible). Isabelle is curious and a people person, two attributes that often go hand in hand! Her favourite colour is green and her motto "a day without laughter is a day wasted!"
