From 14 December 2019 to 5 January 2020, why not head down to Place Ambroise Courtois for a touch of open-air ice skating?
The joys of the end-of-year festivities in Lyon: the festive lights down Rue de la République, Place’s Carnot Christmas market, and the Ferris wheel standing proud and tall on Place Bellecour, plus… The famous, and eagerly-awaited, "Patinoire des Lumières" ice skating rink! We’re delighted to confirm that it’s back again this year.
What are you waiting for? Grab your woolly hat, scarf and gloves and get yourself down to the 8th district to hit the ice. (Re-)discover the joys of skating! Exhilaration or relaxation? You decide!
The "Patinoire des Lumières" is open to adults, children… and even toddlers! On Saturday and Sunday mornings, from 9.30 to noon, the ice rink is only open to under 6s to guarantee a safe first skating experience for all. There’s also a freely-accessible “wheelchair sledge” available free-of-charge for accompanied persons of reduced mobility.
Whether you’re a beginner or experienced skater - and personally, I fall more into the former category - the "Patinoire des Lumières" is an enjoyable experience to share with friends or family as 2019 draws to a close.
Mélina joined our gang this summer, and we're all delighted! She's from the Vendée on the west coast of France, and her eyes are as blue as the ocean that laps its shores. In fact her kind and mischievous eyes are the first thing you notice about her, and you soon realise that despite her gentle and even quite discrete nature lies a boundless source of energy!

Between the 23rd of November and the 24th of December 2019, wooden huts pop up on squares in and around Lyon, to the delight of kids and grown-ups.
