From the classic “L’arroseur arrosé” to today’s digital films, cinema has come a very long way!
And it is brimming with creativity, imagination, ingenuity, science and technology!
This is exactly what the exhibition “Lumière! The invention of the cinema” invites you to discover at the Musée des Confluences. Having visited Paris and Bologna, the exposition has now returned to its cinematic roots in Lyon.
The incredibly rapid development of science and technology in the 19th century, in the fields of both optics and motion, physics and chemistry, resulted in the Lumière brothers Auguste and Louis inventing the cinematograph in Lyon, thus developing a veritable industry around photography and films.
This exhibition will immerse you in a reconstruction of the first film theatre, where the most patient (and passionate) among you can view the Lumière brothers’ 1,422 films on a wall of images!
Bill posters, autochrome plates, models, panoramic views and optical toys allow you to get to grips with the full extent of the brothers’ creativity, their inventions having profoundly marked the world and the way in which we are entertained, up to this very day.
An enthralling scientific, iconographic and human epic that's not to be missed!
