2 exhibitions and 2 artists in residence at MAC Lyon, the city's Museum of Contemporary Art
From the 9th March to the 8th July 2018, MAC Lyon will be pulling out all the stops to give you the very best contemporary art has to offer.
What with a major artist from the international scene, the exhibition of the museum's own collections and two artists in residence, you only have to follow the guide to ensure that spring and summer are marked by art!
Adel ABDESSEMED - L’antidote
For Adel Abdessemed, an artist born in 1971 in Algeria who graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Lyon in 1998, this exhibition is something of a homecoming. Its title for instance: L'Antidote, is the name of an Irish pub in Lyon where he spent time as a student, and met the woman who was later to become his wife.
The exhibition itself is also an antidote for this politically committed artist who grapples with the tensions of the modern world: the word itself a challenge thrown in the faces of violent and authoritarian regimes. Using historical references and a variety of materials, Adel Abdessemed breaks the taboos to give us his vision of the world woven from violence and poetry.
On both floors of the museum, you can wander through powerful works of art previously unreleased in France. They embody the major themes of an artist who is truly representative of this day and age.
COLLECTION
MAC Lyon is devoted to temporary exhibitions, but it also has a substantial permanent collection of its own. Displayed in fragmented form, the collection covers all areas of contemporary expression.
Rediscover some thirty works acquired by the museum on the occasion of biennials and exhibitions, and explore the various media (photography, digital, paintings, music, etc.) that make up the diversity of this collection.
From Erró to Marlène Moquet, and from Xavier Veilhan to Daniel Firman, don't miss this opportunity to discover MAC Lyon's hidden treasures.
ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE
Maïté Marra will be taking up residence at the museum until the 27th May. As an artist and videographer working in and around Lyon, her new film places the human body subject to abuse and violence at the heart of her work, the aim being to question the transition between real life and art.
From the 9th June to the 8th July, author of graphic novels Julie Rocheleau will be taking the museum by storm in partnership with the Lyon BD Festival*. From the 31st May to the 8th June 2018, she will be working on the walls of the MAC Lyon museum (in full view of the public from Wednesday 6th June), and her works will be exhibited until the 8th of July. (*Graphic Novel Festival)
In the context of the Lyon BD Festival on the 9th and 10th June, ten authors will be invited to reproduce works taken from the collection in public.
Eléonore is the romantic member of the team! Rumour has it that she knows her classics better than anyone else, and if you want to strike up a conversation with her, just mention Jane Austen, and you'll be away!
