In the evening, dine out Lyon-style : in a bouchon or a bictronomic restaurant… Further information here.
On 13 July, you start to get into the spirit of Bastille Day.
If you like military parades, go to Place Maréchal Lyautey (6th arrondissement) at 5.00 p.m.
On 14 July, the evening is devoted to balls and fireworks, and various festive events take place on the river banks, such as the Guinguettes du 9ème, in Vaise along the Saône.
Also take the opportunity to take an audio-guided tour to discover Vieux Lyon or the Croix-Rousse hill, have a drink on the terrace under the arches of Le Péristyle cafe at the Opera while listening to a jazz concert before the evening's festivities...
The 14th of July Balls
Apart from the traditional Firemen's Balls at the fire stations...
Meet from 9 p.m. onwards on the banks of the Saône river, between Maréchal juin et Bonaparte bridges: choose from three balls, three stages, and three musical moods, or go from one to the next as all three balls are held on the banks of the Saône. Rock, groove and rumba, reggae, soul, blues and roots, US rock or World music, in an ideal setting, between the river and the old districts, with an unrestricted view of Fourvière hill.
Fireworks
Make sure you stay put: every 14 July, Fourvière hill lights up at 10.30 p.m. for a grand show.
If you like fireworks, please note that most of the other communes in Greater Lyon have their firework displays on the evening of 13 July. In Francheville, Caluire, Vaulx-en-Velin, Tassin, Vernaison, Vénissieux, Rillieux-la-Pape…
Look up to the sky... and enjoy!
Have a great Bastille Day!
