Lyon’s Museum of Fine Arts will be looking at one of Lyon’s first famous figures: a certain Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus…
The Roman emperor Claudius was born in Lugdunum in 10 BC.
While his wives Messalina and Agrippina somewhat tarnished his image, as did the tragic death of his son, Britannicus, it is reasonable to restore the reputation of this cultivated man, who was concerned for the well-being of his people and carried out great reforms in the Empire.
The exhibition will include low reliefs, cameos and coins, everyday objects, and history painting.
150 collection items and works, complemented by videos, film extracts and photographs by Ferrante Ferranti, are presented for this exhibition, which offers a new and fairer picture of an emperor who was loved by his people… and the people of Lyon!
Admission to the Musée des Beaux-arts and its exhibition is included in the Lyon City Card.
Special night-time openings
(from 6 PM to 10 PM)

Isabelle, our editor born and bred in Lyon! She was born in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon in fact, studied in Lyon and now lives here. Territorial? Absolutely not! She loves travelling, widening her horizons, meeting new people and enjoys a change of scenery (without snow, if possible). Isabelle is curious and a people person, two attributes that often go hand in hand! Her favourite colour is green and her motto "a day without laughter is a day wasted!"
