Spend a night in a museum!

On Saturday 18 May 2019, museums in Lyon and the rest of Europe will be welcoming visitors free of charge late into the evening—with a host of special events for the programme now in its 15th year!

Ever visited a museum at night before? If not, it's definitely an experience you need to try once in your lifetime. After the first time, we know you’ll be back again and again!
For the 15th year of the European Night of Museums, there are plenty of surprises in store that will show you just how incredible these temples of culture and knowledge truly are.

Here is my pick of the best…

Lugdunum Museum is being transformed into one big games room with a difference—the games are thousands of years old. But don't worry, the rules haven’t changed that much! From hopscotch and jacks, to role-playing and cards, if you’re an avid gamer, this is the place to be! From 7 pm to 10 pm.

At everyone’s favourite anthropology museum, the Musée des Confluences, it’s an insect takeover, proving that creepy crawlies come in all shapes and sizes! See giant ones at Insectes’Inside, tasty ones at the Beetle Bar (don't expect me there!), fashionable, sparkly or origami ones, and even musical ones! However, if the thought of all these bugs under one roof is enough to make you squirm, simply come and take refuge in the other exhibition halls to browse at your leisure, from 7 pm to midnight.

Gadagne Museum is going game crazy! Come down and solve two different riddles: a hunt for famous or unsung figures in the history of Lyon, with prizes to be won! Or there’s a maze for the more adventurous. Otherwise, simply take a tour around both museums. From 7 pm to midnight.

At the museum dedicated to fine arts, the Musée des Beaux-arts, master’s students in writing and images in different cultures will unveil some of the works in their own special way… from 7 pm to midnight.

At the Musée de l’Imprimerie, the museum of printing, take a guided tour or explore the collections at your own pace, taking in demonstrations presented by graphic design experts along the way.

All happening at the late-night museum event taking place on Saturday 18 May 2019.

Isabelle is curious and a people person, two attributes that often go hand in hand! Her favourite colour is green and her motto "a day without laughter is a day wasted!"
