Cours Emile Zola et Cours Vitton
Lieux divers - 69100 Villeurbanne
On the 21st of June 2022, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Fête de la Musique (Music Day), Villeurbanne – the 2022 French Capital of Culture – and Lyon are joining forces for a big and beautiful event dedicated to music!
Villeurbanne is inviting its residents to bring their instruments to the streets for a giant concert, which will stretch out along a 6.5 km route, creating a joy-filled procession between the city halls of Villeurbanne and Lyon. The idea is to reunite with the founding spirit of this event that was initiated on the 21st of June 1982 by Jack Lang, who was then the French Minister of Culture. He should also be attending the 2022 edition.
In the afternoon, the ‘Charivari des enfants’ (literally ‘children’s racket’) will bring together 800 children, dressed in costumes, and their instruments, for a large-scale scripted concert: ‘Le cri de la Jeunesse’ (the cry of youth), a contemporary work defined as “organised noise”.
Beginning at 6 pm, all along Cours Emile Zola, everybody will be welcome to take to the street, which will be transformed into a giant, spontaneous and participative performance space. Hundreds of children from the orchestras and choirs of the ENM (National Music School of Villeurbanne), as well as dance classes, will form groups to give concerts and shows until 8 pm. Contemporary music groups will perform near the large glass-fronted building known as ‘Le Quartz’.
Throughout the evening, festival-goers will be able to take a seat at the long tables laid out to share picnics they have brought.
Un village d'enfant proposera des lectures de contes musicaux, et un blind test itinérant ira à la rencontre des gens.
At the children’s village, there will be readings of musical tales, while a roaming blind test will make its way around the town. Everybody is invited to take part in this huge celebration of music, in a joyful cacophony!
In Lyon, groups have been pre-selected and will give concerts on stages set up along Cours Vitton.
Isabelle, our editor born and bred in Lyon! She was born in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon in fact, studied in Lyon and now lives here. Territorial? Absolutely not! She loves travelling, widening her horizons, meeting new people and enjoys a change of scenery (without snow, if possible). Isabelle is curious and a people person, two attributes that often go hand in hand! Her favourite colour is green and her motto "a day without laughter is a day wasted!"
