Born in Brazil in 1944, Sebastião Salgado is one of the major artists in the field of photography. Through his work, the Franco-Brazilian photographer reveals the full beauty of the world. He is profoundly in love with and respectful of nature, and at the start of the 2000s, along with his wife Lélia Wanick-Salgado (the exhibition’s curator), he set up Institut Terra, with the aim of contributing to restoring our planet.

"My camera allowed nature to speak to me. Listening was a privilege for me".  ; Sebastião Salgado

Through 245 incredible black-and-white photos, his last project, Genesis, presents the results of an 8-year exhibition and 30+ trips around the world, to rediscover the mountains, deserts and oceans, animals and peoples who have until now been untouched by the modern world. This project is his "declaration of love for the planet"!

The photographer choose to use only B&W photography to create "a sort of visual fabric with a texture so complex that even the smallest details seem to stretch on forever".

Like a scenographic journey around the globe, the project is split into five chapters, one for each of its five geographical zones:

  • The South of the Planet
  • Sanctuaries
  • Africa
  • The Northern Lands
  • Amazonia & Pantanal...

This exceptional photographic exhibition is a true invitation to voyage, but also to reflect on the beauty and protection of our planet.

"Genesis’s photos aspire to reveal this beauty. The exhibition pays tribute to the fragility of a planet that we all have the duty to protect" ; Lélia Wanick Salgado

Mélina

Mélina joined our gang this summer, and we're all delighted! She's from the Vendée on the west coast of France, and her eyes are as blue as the ocean that laps its shores. In fact her kind and mischievous eyes are the first thing you notice about her, and you soon realise that despite her gentle and even quite discrete nature lies a boundless source of energy!
