So, to avoid broken promises, we’ve decided to offer you 3 areas to explore - for a healthy mind in a healthy body! With sport, culture and culinary delicacies on the menu, the outlook for 2019 is bright.

Burn off those calories

Take it easy after the festive period! So you haven’t done any sport for... quite some time? BeMySport’s coaches offer you small group sessions for a gentle way to get (back) in shape! Organised in Lyon’s parks or unusual locations around the city, they’re a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get back relaxed!

And for those who prefer to go it alone, we love the enform@Lyon app. Its itineraries allow you to (re)discover Lyon as you walk, run, or even build muscle with exercises along the route!

Looking for a challenge to stretch yourself? Held just outside Lyon on 18 January, La Nuit Blanche du Pilat is a 7-km night race in which competitors, with just the light from their headlamps, battle their way through snowy terrain for a good cause - lymphoma research.

Team spirit? Head for the Parc de Parilly on 23 March for the Lyon Ekiden, a 6-person relay marathon, in which each participant must cover a set distance. A chance to say, “I did it”, by sharing the workload over the 26-mile course!

Spiritual nourishment

The Lyon conurbation boasts an abundance of cultural attractions, but we don’t visit them enough! We are sometimes too easily held back by preconceptions: they’re too expensive, they’re elitist...

So, here are some suggestions for 2019!

The MAM Puppetry Museum has reopened with play areas and a more interactive visitor experience. Enjoy a family tour and discover animated characters from all over the world.

If exhibitions are your thing, there’s a busy winter ahead, with the exhibition of works by the photographer Steve McCurry at the Sucrière from 6 February. Do you remember the photo of that young Afghan girl with her green eyes and penetrating gaze? That’s one of his!

Fancy seeing a show? Several venues offer special offers and discounts.

The Auditorium offers under-28s substantial discounts on tickets and subscriptions. And there’s also a selection of free concerts, so the ticket price is not an issue!

At the Maison de la Danse, the ticket prices, like the dancers’ bodies, are flexible. Under-30s and families enjoy special rates!

Lyon’s gastronomic delights

Lyon, the Capital of Gastronomy - it isn’t just a cliché. Alongside its venerable restaurants and traditional bouchons, the city is witnessing the emergence of new gastronomic venues and inventive cuisine! As fine food is part of the city’s DNA, here are a few ideas you simply MUST try in 2019!

Les Halles du Grand Hôtel Dieu, which opened in late 2018, is located close to Place Bellecour and abounds with excellent Lyon eateries. This new and friendly establishment is housed in a historic building and is the perfect spot to enjoy lunch on the Presqu’île - be sure to give it a try. All the shops have a tasting area.

The Hôtel de la Tour Rose (rue du Bœuf) had lain dormant for a number of years. But, in 2019, Tabata and Ludovic Mey are rousing the sleeping beauty from her slumbers in the form of a food court spanning 3 floors: Food traboule. Along with other trendy Lyon restaurants (Kitchen café, Le Bistrot du Potager, Substrat restaurant, Les Apothicaires, La Meunière, the Maison Bouillet…) they are adding a new dimension to gastronomy at the heart of Old Lyon.

Things are hotting up in the Confluence district! To accompany the opening of the Halle H7 or Halle Girard (startup incubator), a new food court is being built on this redeveloped brownfield site. With a dozen stalls, it promises experiments and research into the latest gastronomic trends. Heat is due to open in April.

The CIG (Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie) project involves the creation of an exhibition, meeting and gourmet food venue in the Grand Hôtel Dieu. It is scheduled to open in autumn 2019.

Foodies are in for a treat!

Have a wonderful 2019!

Eléonore

Eléonore is the romantic member of the team! Rumour has it that she knows her classics better than anyone else, and if you want to strike up a conversation with her, just mention Jane Austen, and you'll be away!
