L'Été en Cinémascope 2019

Once again, the Institut Lumière is serving up a superb selection of films for this latest edition of their fantastic festival ‘L'Été en Cinémascope’.
As in previous years, films are projected onto a huge screen placed on the square next to Monplaisir metro station, along with hundreds of chairs for spectators. 
Every Tuesday, at around 10 pm, the magic of cinema takes hold

This summer selection begins on the 25th of June, with a moving family story by Matt Ross, ‘Captain Fantastic’ (10 pm).
The following week (the 2nd of July at 10 pm), ‘I, Daniel Blake’, by Ken Loach, offers spectators a lesson in hope and rage. An inspiring film.
On the 9th of July at 10 pm, there will be a tribute to the talented and sorely missed Agnès Varda, with her masterwork ‘Cléo from 5 to 7’.
On the 16th of July at 10 pm, Pietro Germi’s huge classic, ‘Divorce Italian Style’, starring Marcello Mastroianni, will make you want to laugh and cry, maybe both at once.
“Hang on, where are the westerns?!”, we hear you cry. Fear not, shoot-‘em-up fans have not been forgotten, with the screening of ‘The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance’ starring the great John Wayne, on the 23rd of July at 9:45 pm.
On Tuesday the 13th of August at 9:45 pm, there will be a Hollywood blockbuster with ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ by J.A. Bayona. It may not be the best film of the saga, but it has to be one of the most fun.

What about classic French films? They have not been overlooked either: Claude Lelouch’s hilarious comedy ‘L’aventure, c’est l’aventure’, and its five-star cast, will bring back fond memories for French spectators.
L’Été en Cinémascope 2019 will end on Tuesday the 27th of August at 9 pm with Spike Lee’s scathing film BlacKkKlansman (there will be a free ice cream for audience members).

All films are shown in their original language versions with French subtitles.  Highly recommended for film lovers.
