Books as heroes

From 12 April to 22 September 2019 at Musée de l’Imprimerie et de la Communication Graphique (Museum of Printing and Graphic Communication), this exhibition will take you on a journey across the centuries, continents, world and national events...

Because of the ideas they convey, and the contexts and situations they go through, books are vulnerable.

This exhibition offers a chance to explore such books, as well as their authors and the people who saved them, with four parts that lift the veil on the dangers they escaped:

> Lightning – Struck books
> Index – Forbidden books
> Exile – Dispersed books
> Talismans – Books that save.

The original scenography depicts a "forest" where seven totems stand, to travel with the lost and found pages, and follow their adventures and salvation, stopping along the way to become familiar with a book and its smuggler.

Rather than display cabinets (which confine), preference is given to stories, images, "auras" of remarkable men and women, and whispers of books that have returned from their Odyssey.

A fascinating exhibition.

Admission to the Museum and its exhibition is included in the Lyon City Card.

“BibliOdyssées” to accompany the exhibition

Published by Actes Sud, in their collection Imprimerie nationale/Arts du livre, the book BibliOdyssées follows the order of the exhibition and relates, in fifty chapters, the extraor dinary destinies of the items displayed in Rescued books: an odyssey.
These fifty histories, full of surprises and unforeseen developments, are preceded by two masterly texts by the authors Kamel Daoud and Raphaël Jerusalmy, who wished to add their sensibility, experience and erudition to the theme presented by the Museum.

Isabelle

Isabelle, our editor born and bred in Lyon! She was born in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon in fact, studied in Lyon and now lives here. Territorial? Absolutely not! She loves travelling, widening her horizons, meeting new people and enjoys a change of scenery (without snow, if possible). Isabelle is curious and a people person, two attributes that often go hand in hand! Her favourite colour is green and her motto "a day without laughter is a day wasted!"
