Quartier Saint-Jean
Place Saint-Jean - 69005 Lyon 5ème
14 and 15 September 2019, on Place Saint-Jean and Lazaristes' school courtyard, don't miss this traditional market of ceramic artworks.
‘La Terre est vernissée’ (The Earth is glazed)
This is the theme of this 34th market (the largest in France), which brings together some 140 ceramists and potters on Place Saint-Jean, in the Old Lyon.
In 2019, the spotlight is on glazed earthenware: colourful, cheerful and very popular in the region. While its history and traditions are well represented, the creativity of young ceramists, who master the technique and revisit it with a contemporary approach, is also expressed.
Contemporary and classical pieces are exhibited in the Cour des Lazaristes, while a space dedicated to film screenings and conferences offers a better understanding of this craft industry.
The ‘Tupiniers du Vieux Lyon’ market is recognised beyond our region as a reference in the area of ceramic artworks and artisanry, attracting specialists from all over Europe each year.
Admission free
Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of September 2019, 9 am to 7 pm.
Isabelle, our editor born and bred in Lyon! She was born in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon in fact, studied in Lyon and now lives here. Territorial? Absolutely not! She loves travelling, widening her horizons, meeting new people and enjoys a change of scenery (without snow, if possible). Isabelle is curious and a people person, two attributes that often go hand in hand! Her favourite colour is green and her motto "a day without laughter is a day wasted!"
