Discover a monumental natural feature
From 16 October 2020 to 22 August 2021, set off on an incredible journey to the heart of the Makay range, at the Musée des Confluences.
The little-known Makay range is located in the south-west of Madagascar. Consisting of plateaus, ridges and a complex network of canyons, this exceptional area is home to rich plant life and many animal species. Isolated in this natural refuge, plants and animals have even diverged and formed new species!
For a long time protected by its spectacular relief, the Makay range is unfortunately threatened by growing human activities, such as widespread breeding of zebu cattle, and the proliferation of invasive species.
This latest exhibition at the Musée des Confluences offers a chance to become an explorer and discover an extraordinary region, with its landscapes, fauna and flora, through drawings, videos and photographs of expeditions. Through panoramic images or the sounds of nocturnal animal activity, immerse yourself in Madagascar’s biodiversity, in the heart of the Makay range.
‘Makay, a wildlife refuge on Madagascar’ of course reflects current environmental concerns. More than ever, the Musée des Confluences aims to raise awareness among children and adults about the preservation of nature and its riches.

Mélina joined our gang this summer, and we're all delighted! She's from the Vendée on the west coast of France, and her eyes are as blue as the ocean that laps its shores. In fact her kind and mischievous eyes are the first thing you notice about her, and you soon realise that despite her gentle and even quite discrete nature lies a boundless source of energy!
