The International theatre festival Contre-Sens invites artists whose unique approach leads them to confront both the past and present by means of the most artisanal weapon of all: theatre. This approach to the artform is centred around urgency and necessity, and is deeply political, yet far from any ideology or propaganda.
Unruly and militant, the invited artists hail from Latin America, Canada, Russia, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Greece, Kosovo, Lebanon, Syria and Congo.

In 2024, Contre-Sens will be focusing on the theme of ‘breaking down walls’: 7 shows (in original languages with surtitles) will tackle this injunction from different angles: walls between generations, the wall of silence, walls between people, walls between ‘normality’ and singularity...
Around this programme, there will be meetings, exchanges, screenings, debates and workshops in the Lyon metropolitan area.
At a time when so many walls are being built, Contre-Sens is an invitation to take the time to show, to share, to look beyond their presence and see what's happening on the other side.
