From 5 to 28 March 2020, the Spraying Board exhibition is highlighting two practices that have long been marginalised: skateboarding and street art.
While some grouchy souls may see them as ugly, noisy, or – even worse – both, there is no denying that Lyon has become a true hotbed of street culture.
Two locally born and raised skateboarders, Aurélien Giraud and Robin Bolian, will represent France in skateboarding at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
And the walls of our city are constantly being painted with new waves of colour by a group of dedicated street artists who have been granted a permit to share their modern art with the rest of us.
These two practices are inseparable. They bring urban centres to life and their aesthetic traditions feed off each other.
In recognition of this creative power, the Superposition gallery and the online magazine The Daily Board have decided to fuse styles by inviting a dozen emerging or renowned local, national, and international artists to customise 44 skateboards in front of a live audience (with fresh paint or live-mapping projections).
These works of art on wheels will be on display at Galerie des Terreaux.
