The Biennale de la Danse, originally planned for 2020, is back with a vengeance! This year’s 19th edition will be held on an odd-numbered year, from 1 to 16 June 2021.
With appearances by some of the greatest names of the international scene and up-and-coming artists, this Biennale de la Danse is back in a new format that celebrates African creativity.
This Biennale de la Danse has planned twenty-two “2020/2021” performances featuring artists such as Marlene Monteiro Freitas and Dimitris Papaioannou, two key creators on the international contemporary scene. In line with the Africa2020 theme, this 2021 edition will not only feature but also support the creative works of leading and up-and-coming artists from 16 different African countries. Programme of performances available online.
The Défilé inspired by the colours of Africa, which is a beloved highlight for visitors, will be adapted to meet the current health guidelines. The event will take place on 5 and 6 June at the Grand Théâtre de Fourvière, in partnership with the Nights at de Fourvière Festival. Attendance will be limited to participants and their families. But it will be broadcast on France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes so that everyone can enjoy it.
As part of the Africa2020 season, more than fifty artists in the fields of circus arts, visual arts, music, singing, dance, and fashion from 10 different African countries worked alongside regional artists to bring this event to life. It is a beautiful example of Franco-African artistic exchange!
2021 will also highlight the creativity of today's youth with a one-of-a-kind experience open to the general public at the Fagor Factory, featuring performances, talks, and discussion sessions with the artists.
After the Biennial of Contemporary Art, the Biennale de la Danse and eleven young creators will transform the Fagor Factory. From 8 to 16 June, the factory will become a new art gallery and a place where artists, choreographers, and videographers will gather to meet and share ideas with visitors of all ages.
Show off your amateur dance skills at a dance-off, admire the choreographic creations on display, participate in a debate, and create your own avatar on our digital dance floor. All this and more awaits you at the Fagor Experience!
Calendar of events at the Fagor Factory available online.
Mélina joined our gang this summer, and we're all delighted! She's from the Vendée on the west coast of France, and her eyes are as blue as the ocean that laps its shores. In fact her kind and mischievous eyes are the first thing you notice about her, and you soon realise that despite her gentle and even quite discrete nature lies a boundless source of energy!
