This major 10-day festival involves 60 sites spread across Greater Lyon, including retrospectives and tributes presented by actors, filmmakers, etc. The programme features major international classics, with restored copies of everything from early silent movies to recent films.

This 12th edition pays tribute to Michel Audiard, celebrating his centenary with a retrospective, as well as the work of the American director Clarence Brown.

This festival celebrating love of cinema, held in a very welcoming atmosphere, is packed from start to finish with multiple guest artists, more than 400 screenings, events, encounters, and exhibitions.

The 2020 Prix Lumière will be awarded at a gala ceremony to the Belgian directing brothers, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, as recognition of their entire career.

A much-awaited event in the Lumière brothers’ city of birth!

« We are very honoured to receive this 2020 Lumière Award, declared Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. For us, two directing brothers, this award embodies a special emotion. It connects us to the original brotherhood of cinema, with the two brothers, who filmed, for the first time, the bodies, the faces of men and women, workers leaving their workshops. More than a century later, we film bodies, faces, which are the descendants of those shot by the Lumière brothers, and, each time, we try to film them as if it were the first time. It will be wonderful to receive this Award in the context of the festival, which creates a dialogue, like nowhere else, between world heritage cinema and audiences of today.

Long live the cinema! Long live life! »
