Trévoux
Sail on the Saône or enjoy any one of the numerous leisure activities on offer along the banks of the river. Stroll through the parks and gardens, visit the distinguished castles and museums, and meet our artistic craftsmen and keen guides. And while you’re here, don't forget to taste the local specialities and produce. Welcome to our principality!
9 am: Leave Lyon
35 minutes later, you'll be strolling through the city of Trévoux, along the “Capitale de Dombes à pas contés” trail.
We propose visiting the sight, sound and touch exhibition at the Carré Patrimoines museum, which presents “Trévoux-Saône-Vallée, a land of Art and History” and also houses the apothecary of the former Montpensier Hospital.
For lunch we suggest fried whitebait or frogs' legs in a restaurant along the banks of the Saône.
In the afternoon, discover the charms of an emblem from Trévoux's unusual past with Hôtel Pierre et Anne de Bourbon. This magnificent and recently restored masterpiece showcases the town's historic collections and also houses the Tourist Office. Thanks to its eye-catching setup, you'll discover an unprecedented heritage guided by characters who will reveal the historical techniques used for minting, refining precious metals, silver and goldsmithing and also printing. Learn about the economic influence and cultural outreach of Trévoux thanks to ancient manuscripts, including the Mémoires de Trévoux and the Dictionnaire de Trévoux, which made this city famous during the Age of Enlightenment.
During the high season, follow the Tourist Office guides and discover the exceptional décor of the courtroom in the Dombes Parliament prior to conquering the fortified castle.
