Between the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century, the Chartreuse Order chose to build this church on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse district.
Now mainly overlooked by the locals themselves Saint-Bruno-lès-Chartreux's church is a remarkable example of baroque style.
Stroll through its lofty white and gold interior, and admire its paintings and wooden choir stalls. The highlight of the visit is the spectacular canopy surmounting the altar! These draperies were dipped in plaster and hung before the plaster had set to achieve their beautiful draped effect.

A few historical facts
Built between 1590 and 1690. Ferdinand Delamonce added the dome in 1736, which was finished by Germain Soufflot (1713-1780) in 1742. It was restored between 1860 and 1866 by Tony Desjardins. Louis Sainte-Marie-Perrin erected the façade in 1871. Listed as a Historical Monument in 1911, the church was renovated between 2004 and 2006. The altar canopy by Giovanni Niccolò Servandoni is unique worldwide for its real fabric dipped in stucco. It contains numerous works of art dating back to the 17th and 18th century.
