In the heart of Old Lyon, the Musées Gadagne (Lyon History Museum and Puppetry Museum) unveil the splendour of their interior courtyard and exhibition rooms. Lyon's largest Renaissance building dates back to the end of the 15th century, and was purchased in the 16th century by the Gadagne, a wealthy family of Florentine bankers. You are welcome to enter the inner courtyard (free of access) to admire the galleries and to go up to the 4th floor of the building to discover the hillside hanging gardens!

Today, the LHM is undertaking an ambitious project to overhaul its permanent collections. 4 levels will thus gradually open up over the next 4 years, bringing a different perspective and lighting to the city.

Musées Gadagne - Portraits de Lyon

First up, the space "Portraits of Lyon", dedicated to urban history. How to define Lyon? How did Lyon become Lyon? What is Lyon today? These are some of the questions addressed by the 3 spaces composing this new permanent exhibition.

Gadagne - Portraits de Lyon

Approximately ten emblematic objects from Lyon (from the Guignol puppet to the silk spool) serve as an initial framework for questioning Lyon's identity. Then, 6 fictional characters, representing 6 major periods in the city's history, take us on a journey of discovery through Lyon, allowing us discover the daily life of their era.

Afterwards, immerse yourself in contemporary Lyon thanks to a large detailed model in which discovery scenarios are proposed via video mapping projections.

With fun videos and animations, this new space is a destination for both families and the general public, whether it helps a visitor to better understand the city or for a resident of Lyon to reflect on his or her urban identity.
