Fury, madness and virtuosity of a baroque hero
Ariosto's vast epic poem, Orlando furioso [Furious Roland], has had a profound influence on the history of art, and especially on music. This is evidenced by the well-known operas of Vivaldi and Handel, which this program draws on, as well as the lesser-known operas of Steffani, Fux, and Porpora, which it invites you to discover.
Program:
Arias and Sinfonias taken from Orlando generoso (1691) by Agostino Steffani, Orlando furioso (1727) by Antonio Vivaldi, L'Angelica (1720) by Nicolà Porpora, L'Angelica vincitrice di Alcina (1716) by Johann Joseph Fux, Orlando (1733) by Georg Friedrich Händel.
