Lyon’s best ‘Galettes des Rois’ to celebrate the 2019 Epiphany

It’s time to find the Galette des Rois of your dreams, whether you like them crispy, caramelised, packed with frangipane or thin.

For several years now, blogger and food journalist Faim de Lyon has held a “grand testing” each January. Dozens of the traditional frangipane cakes from Lyon’s finest establishments are laid out on her table. Could your perfect Galette des Rois be hiding among the winners of previous years?

In 2017, Partisan Boulanger’s Galette des Rois was judged to be the most authentic; Maison Sève’s the most luxurious; Kitchen Café’s the most unmissable; Délices des Sens’ the best all-rounder, offering excellent value for money; and, last but not least, Maison Bouillet’s the safest bet. So, what does the 2019 vintage hold in store for us? We recommend comparing the Galettes des Rois made by the above, as well as some of Lyon’s many other fine establishments. How about Boulangerie de la Martinière, Pâtisserie Taffin, Pignol, Kayser or L'Epicerie-Comptoir de la Mère Brazier? Lyon boasts so many excellent bakeries and patisseries that it would be impossible to mention them all here!
